Preschool News ~ Space Unit ~ May 2017
Throughout the month of May we will be exploring ALL ABOUT SPACE!
Some of our essential questions include: What is Space? What can be found in Space? and What is the difference between what is real and what is pretend?
We will also be discussing the characteristics of night and day. Some of this month’s activities will include space dress-up (astronaut gear), building a rocket ship with interlocking no-end blocks and Lego's, creating space pictures with a variety of art materials, setting up a space station and making "puffy paint" Earths!
During circle the children talked about what they already knew about Space. Some of their responses included: “The sky is full of stars", "Space is up in the sky”, “Space is cold and dark”, “Spaceships fly in space”, “The moon comes out at night”, "Sometimes I see the moon in the daytime", “The sun is hot”, “Space is far, far away”, “We live on Earth”, “Astronauts go into outer space”, “Astronauts wear special helmets and pants”, "Saturn has rings around it" and “There are planets in outer-space”.
