~ Families ~

Our next curriculum unit will focus on “FAMILIES”.  During our group discussions we will talk about how all families are different.  Some families are very big (have a lot of family members) while others are small (have a few family members). Students will have the opportunity to share who is in their family (e.g., mommy, daddy, sister, brother, grandma, etc.) along with their special “Family Project”.  Family project details went home last week – Decorate your house!! PLEASE include a family photo in addition to your drawings and decorations!!  We will display in the classroom for all to see.  Finally, we will talk about all the wonderful things a family can do together, from watching a movie to going on a fun trip.  Students will also have a chance to share their special family traditions (e.g., holidays, celebrations, birthdays, vacations, etc.).

We are looking forward to a wonderful month!

Home/School Connection
Reading books with your child is one of the best ways to help him or her develop a love for books.  Loving books is one of the most important keys to your child’s success in school.  In addition to reading to your child, talking to him or her about each book will help build the love of reading.  It will also build their knowledge and vocabulary.  Asking questions teaches your child to express his or her ideas!!
Do you have a special book you like to read to your child?  Feel free to share these books with the classroom J  Please make sure to label the book!

In school, we talk a lot about our feelings and the feeling others.  Stories are a great way to open up the conversation about feelings at home too!

Last week Ms. Jen (The Feelings Teacher) read us a Dr. Seuss story about feelings, My Many Colored Days.  The students enjoyed listening to the story and matching the "colored" feeling into our 4 Zones (Red, Yellow, Blue, Green).  After the story we all practiced our calm breathing :)
