Throughout the month of February we have been VERY busy learning All About Our Community...FRANKLIN!
The children we very
excited to learn that we ALL live in Franklin!
During circle we shared some of our favorite activities to do in our
community (i.e., visiting the library, mailing letters at the post office, hiking in the woods, eating at your favorite restaurant, or playing at the playground). We also learned about the different people who live and work in
our community (doctors, dentists, veterinarians, firefighters, police officers, teachers, etc.). The children were excited to share personal stories about
their own family members who are also “community helpers”!
Last week we had some special Community Helpers visit our classroom...Officer Mark Manocchio and Officer Jamie Mucciarone from the Franklin Police Department. They taught us a lot of about staying safe in our community! We learned about 9-1-1 (when to call and when NOT to call), how to stay safe while playing outside (i.e., wear a bike helmet, always hold an adult's hand while crossing the street) and the importance of wearing a seat-belt/sitting in a car seat while in the car.
We tried on some real police gear (i.e., hats, vests, etc.) and talked about how this gear helps police officers stay safe!

“Where in the Community am I?”
This guessing game is a fun way to help your child discover the
kinds of businesses that make up your community. Begin by choosing a place
that your child is familiar with (i.e. grocery store, fire station). Tell
him/her, “I’m visiting a place in our town. Can you guess where I
am?” Give clues/hints about each of the locations (i.e. This place is
where we go to buy fruits and vegetables. We can push a shopping
cart.) Once your child figures out the location you are describing, have
them take a turn!!
We hope everyone had a WONDERFUL School Vacation!!
