Author Study ~ Don and Audrey Wood

This week we will began our new Author Study unit focusing Don and Audrey Wood.  We will learn that Don and Audrey both write and illustrate children’s books.  Some of their most recognizable children’s books include “The Big Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry”, “Piggies”, “The Napping House”, “Silly Sally” and “Alphabet Adventure”.  We will be learning about and discussing the role of an author and an illustrator.

If your child has a favorite Don or Audrey Wood book at home that they would like to share with their classmates please feel free to send them in (please label your child’s book)!

Classroom Happenings
This week Miss Jen (our School Psychologist) did another great lesson on Feelings.  She read 4 short stories about feelings (from the Inside Out movie collection) and then we sorted a variety of feeling cards into the 4 Zones of Regulation!
RED ZONE, YELLOW ZONE, BLUE ZONE and GREEN ZONE

~We graphed November's weather~
During circle we took a look back at November's Weather!
We worked on counting (How many Cloudy days? Sunny? Rainy?) and comparing (Which weather did we have the Most/Least).  The students took turns predicting what type of weather they thought we had the most of!

The results...November had more Sunny (10) days then Cloudy (9) days!
We also had 1 Rainy day and 5 Home days!

If you send your child into school wearing boots, PLEASE don’t forget to pack a pair of shoes/sneakers in his/her backpack to change into.  For Safety Reasons, we ask that you NOT send in slippers.
