Travel and Transportation
As we begin the journey through our last month of school, we will be exploring the exciting topic of Travel and Transportation.
Summer is an exciting time of fun and sometimes includes a vacation or two!  During the month of June, we will be talking about our vacation destinations (real and imaginary!).  We will also be looking at maps and globes and deciding the best mode of transportation in which to get there…will we need to travel by land, by air or by sea?  We may even be packing a suitcase or two to bring along on our journey!  We will be creating vehicles out of various shapes and also making our very own maps and hot air balloons.  We have lots to explore!

Some of the books we will be reading next month include:
Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by: Mo Willems
We All Go Traveling  by: Sheena Roberts
Up, Up, Up by: Rachel Oldfield

If you have any photographs from some of your favorite family vacations please send them in with your child to share!
Please include a note letting us know, "Where did your family go?" "How did you get there?" and "What was your favorite part of the vacation?"

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Great Space Race

Preschool News
Week of May 18, 2015

The Great Space Race

We are still learning all about SPACE in preschool!  Among other things, we learned the names of the 8 planets, people who fly the space shuttle are called astronauts and that it takes 4 WHOLE days to fly to the moon!

This week we read the story, On the Moon by Anna Milbourse and Benji Davies.  This simple picture book focused on a crew of astronauts and their adventures on the moon.  Some of our new vocabulary words included: launch pad, launch, gravity, orbit and crew.

As a related activity, we played the "Great Space Race" game.  Children were asked questions in relation to our space theme as well as questions directly related to our story.  Everyone had a great time cheering on the Aliens and the Astronauts!!

Here is a list of some of our game questions
Rockets blast off from the __________? (Launchpad)
What is the name of our planet? (Earth)
Name something you see in the sky at night/day? (Sun, moon, stars, etc.)
What do you call someone who flies a rocket? (Astronaut)
What can you use to look at the stars at night? (Telescope)
The group of astronauts who fly the rocket? (Crew)
When a rocket circles the earth it is called? (Orbit)
Is it dark or light in space? (Dark)

We hope everyone has a wonderful HOLIDAY weekend!

Visiting our Senior Friends

Wednesday May 13, 2015

Today we visited the Senior Center!  Everyone had a wonderful time singing and dancing together.  The students enjoyed singing some of their favorite songs, "Open, Shut Them", "ABC's", "The Goldfish", and "If You're Happy and You Know It".  We also read the story From Head To Toe by Eric Carle and "acted out" some silly animal movements.

Here are some pictures to share!

All About Space

Preschool News ~ Space Unit ~ May 2015
Last week we began our unit on SPACE.  We will be exploring… What is SPACE? What can be found in space?  We will also be discussing the characteristics of night and day.  Some of this month’s activities will include space dress-up (astronaut gear), building a rocket ship with interlocking no-end blocks and Lego's, creating space pictures with a variety of art materials and making “moon shakes” (cooking activity).
During circle the children talked about what they already knew about Space. Some of their responses included:
“The sky has fluffy clouds", "Space is up in the sky”, “Space is cold and dark”, “There are stars in the sky”, “The moon comes out at night”, “The sun is hot”, “Space is far, far away”, “We live on Earth”, “Astronauts go into outer space”, “Astronauts wear special helmets and pants”, “There are planets in outer-space” and "The moon is really a rock".
