Fall Fun in Preschool

We have been very busy learning all about the season of FALL and HARVEST.  Our BIG IDEA  for the unit is, "What is special about Fall?"  There are many changes we can see, feel and smell.  The weather becomes cooler, the leaves change color and fall to the ground, and it is also a great time to pick apples and pumpkins.

During circle time the children enjoyed sharing personal stories about their FALL experiences.  We talked about visiting local farms, going on hayrides, visiting apple orchards (apple picking) and pumpkin patches!  We also had a wonderful time exploring our “Fall Discovery” bags.  The students had a wonderful time sharing their fall items from their scavenger hunts.  We observed, touched, smelled and compared a variety of fall items.  Some of the items included: acorns, pine cones, leaves, pine needles, pumpkins, apples, gourds, and seedlings.

October’s Motor Room
This month the activities in the motor room will focus on the following gross motor skills: Balance and endurance (Obstacle course ~ trampoline, balance beam, hopscotch), hand/eye coordination/ball skills (Basketball) and trunk strengthening (turn-taking) with scooter boards (Matching red, yellow and green apples).

Germs Are Not for Sharing by:  Elizabeth Verdick

Last week Nurse Mary came into our classroom and read us a story about GERMS!  We all enjoyed listening to the story, Germs are NOT for Sharing!  We learned all about how we can stay healthy (e.g., washing our hands before and after we eat, after we use the bathroom or wipe your nose, etc.).  After Nurse Mary read the story we practiced washing our hands!!  She used different colored glitter sprinkled on our hands to show us how easily germs can spread from one person to another.
